Champions for Student Success Literacy Night
Literacy Night is March 28th 2019 between the hours of 5:30-7:00 p.m.. There will be an Oratorical Poetry Contest for grades K-4th that is aimed at challenging and inspiring the minds of its participants as well as providing them the opportunity to display their talents of speaking and interpreting poetry.
Each student that wishes to participate will memorize a poem selected by his/her classroom teacher. The student will have approximately 3 weeks to learn the poem by memorization. The student will recite the selected poem initially in a classroom competition.
Classroom winners will compete to represent their grade level on Literacy Night. Literacy Night competition is on March 28th.
Winners per grade level will participate at a designated time on the evening of our Literacy Night between 5:30-7:00 p.m.
* Memorize the poem sent home by the classroom teacher if your child wants to participate! This is not mandatory or required.
* Students will not be allowed to use a copy or to read from the poem during the contest.
* No use of props, special costumes or clothing will be allowed.
* No prompting from the audience.
The judges are an integral part of the Oratorical Contest. Their qualifications are considered carefully as the decision of the judges is final and must be reached without bias. Impartial judging in all contests is the key to fairness and success. The J. L. Boren Oratorical Poetry Contest will end the selection of ONE winner from each grade level.
