The Destination Imagination (DI) team, named Just Add Water, from Lake Ridge High School and Danny Jones Middle School excelled at the state tournament and qualified to compete in the global finals.
Destination Imagination uses project-based learning to apply the creative process across seven different STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) challenges.
The state contest was held in March in Corpus Christi, and the team earned fourth place in the technical challenge. It required the team to build an aircraft that can deliver a team-created payload that takes off, flies and lands and create a story about characters exploring a remote place.
Just Add Water has been competing together since first grade.
The students are now practicing for Global Finals, competing with more than 1,400 top-scoring DI teams from many U.S. states and 14 countries.
The global competition will take place May 22-25 in Kansas City, Missouri. More than 17,000 students, parents and volunteers attend the event each May.
